  11. Dear Dr. Sheard,

My name is Nicole Pilot and I am a Doctorate student in the Clinical Psychology Program at Midwestern University. I was reading an article you wrote about the progress toward construction validation of the Spots Mental Toughness Questionnaire. I am currently in the process of working on my dissertation proposal and I am very interested in using the Sports Mental Toughness Questionnaire in my study. I am wondering if that is at all possible and curious about how to obtain the measure, the costs, and how to score the measure. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and please let me know if I can answer any questions. Thank you again!

  12. Dr. Sheard,

I am writing to ask permission for the use your Sports Mental Toughness Questionnaire.

I am in the process of writing my doctoral dissertation: Mental toughness and the success of Professional Bass Fishermen.

The SMTQ seems to be the most appropriate assessment tool for my investigation.

Also, you stated that the SMTQ is scored on a 4-point Likert scale ranging from “not at all true” to “very true.” What were your other two scales used between these anchors?

Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to your reply.

  13. Hello Dr. Sheard,

I am currently in the process of assembling a testing and survey battery to administer to ultra endurance athletes and wanted to incorporate a measure of Mental Toughness. In my research, it seems as though the most accurate measure of this that exists to date is the PPI-A as described in the Golby, Sheard, and Van Wersch (2007) article. I’m hoping you might be able to direct me as to how I might be able to obtain a copy of the PPI-A or where one can be found in the literature. Any help there would be greatly appreciated, and if you need any further information from me I’d be happy to provide it.

    Kindest regards,
    – Dana
